Irvin Ruiz pitches five-plus hitless innings in 4-2 win.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Irvin Ruiz pitched a gem and Tiger baseball scratched out 10 hits to outpace Judson University on Tuesday afternoon at HIG Field, 4-2.

Ruiz (1-0) sat down the first 16 Judson batters that came to the plate. But Andrew Siegler singled with one out in the sixth to end the hopes of the first Tiger no-hitter since 2011. He finished throwing 7 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, two runs and one earned.

Campbellsville (11-5) started the scoring in the opening inning, after a leadoff walk came back to haunt Judson (9-13). Jacob Carrera had the free pass and moved to second base via a sac bunt by Casey ScottCameron Ketchen delivered the big blow with an RBI-double down the right field line to put CU ahead, 1-0.

CU played add-on in the fifth after Richard Ramirez tripled to deep right-center field. Diego Reynoso – who was playing in his first game for the Tigers as catcher– delivered a two-out RBI-single to left field pushing the Tigers lead to 2-0.

Judson was able to scratch into the CU lead with a run in the sixth inning. After the first hit by Siegler he advanced to second with a sac bunt by Tanner Kehrer and later scored on an RBI-single by Luke Rojas.

Campbellsville picked up crucial runs in the seventh to extend its lead to 4-1. Alex Echevarria led off with a single but was back-picked by the Eagles catcher Conor Grove. After the pickoff, Ramirez walked and Jarrod Ball entered the game to pinch run and stole his first base of the season.

Miguel Solano singled in the hole to shortstop advancing Ball to third and Reynoso delivered once again with a suicide squeeze to push CU's lead to 3-1. Reynoso finished the day 1-for-2 with two RBI.

After the squeeze, Judson went to Alec Berry out of the bullpen but Carrera hit a missile to left-center field on the first pitch he saw to score Solano from first and give CU a little cushion, 4-1.

Ruiz came back out for the eighth inning, but after a single by Josh Krueger, CU's defense got a little sloppy. Krueger moved to second on a passed ball and then to third after an error to force CU to go to Justin Phillips out of the bullpen. Judson's Sam Visconti worked a nine-pitch walk to load the bases with two outs the Tigers once again went to the pen. This time, closer Jake Pannunzio struck out Mark DeYoung to end the Judson threat.

Pannunzio went back out to pick up the one-plus inning save but another error put a runner on first and brought the tying run to the plate. Pannunzio then induced a game-ending 4-6-3 double play to seal the CU win.

In addition to the two RBIs by Reynoso, Cameron Ketchen went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Carrera finished 2-for-3 with one RBI. Ramirez, Echevarria, and Scott had the other hits for CU.

Pannunzio recorded his NAIA-leading sixth save of the season.

The Tigers are scheduled to open Mid-South Conference play on Friday afternoon with University of the Cumberlands but with precipitation predicted, the series could be moved to an earlier date. Follow the Tigers on Twitter - @CvilleTigers and @CTigersBaseball for up-to-date information.
