Tigers face elimination game with Freed-Hardeman

SAVANNAH, Ga. — After falling into the Elimination Bracket of the NAIA Baseball Opening Round Tournament, it's win or go home for Campbellsville. The Tigers will play in their first elimination game today at 2 p.m. ET vs. Freed-Hardeman University.

Campbellsville (36-16) and Freed-Hardeman (41-18) square off in the second game of the day in the Savannah Bracket at Historic Grayson Stadium. The winner will play 45 minutes after the conclusion against the loser of the first game today between Point and USC Beaufort.

The winner of the first game will advance to the Opening Round championship and will have to be beaten twice tomorrow.

The top-seeded Tigers had a hiccup yesterday evening in the first round matchup with Point University. The five-seeded Skyhawks, won their second game of the day, 7-2, after knocking off Taylor University in the bracket's opening game, 8-1.

The Skyhawks belted 14 hits and got a stellar outing from right-hander Dylan Griffin. He allowed five hits and three walks while striking out nine Tigers in eight innings of work.

Mario Morales took the loss for the Tigers, going 7 1/3 innings and allowing six earned runs on 10 hits. 

Freed-Hardeman lost its first game to USC Beaufort yesterday afternoon in a pitcher's duel, 2-0. USCB's John Gora and Blake Drew combined on a three-hit shutout for the Sand Sharks. Gora struck out a USCB career-high nine over seven innings, allowing two hits and five walks.

Brandon Guske took the hard-luck loss for Freed-Hardeman, allowing two runs in the seventh inning and five hits over eight innings with five strikeouts. 

Freed-Hardeman, which comes in ranked No. 20 in the final regular season coaches' poll, is making its third NAIA Opening Round appearance with all of them coming under current head coach Jonathan Estes.

The Lions are a power team at the plate, combining for 57 home runs this season and have scored 471 runs. Led by Pete Trollinger's .347 batting average and 52 RBI, FHU has out-scored its opponents 471-239.

Garrett Ferguson and Chase Young are the big boppers in the middle of the order. Ferguson leads the team with 14 home runs and is second with 48 RBI. Young has 11 long balls and 44 RBI this season.

In the first two games, the pitching staff for FHU has tossed complete-games. Today the Lions will give the ball to Jack Coleman, who is 6-4 on the year with a 4.52 ERA.

Campbellsville is expected to start Mid-South Conference First-Team performer, Nick Przybylek. On the season, Przybylek leads the team with an 8-2 record and is third with a 2.93 ERA.

If the Tigers can win game one today and advance to the elimination bracket finals, CU will turn to Nick Morehead on the mound.
