OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Kayla Miracle and Tiaira Scott won back-to-back national titles and led Campbellsville University women's wrestling to a fourth place finish at the WCWA National Championship hosted at Oklahoma City University.

Miracle and Scott are only the third and fourth Campbellsville University student-athletes to be repeat national titles. Tiosha Beasley (2012 & 2013) and Detrick Briggs (2009 & 2010) won back-to-back outdoor track and field national titles.

In addition to the two national champions, five others were named WCWA All-Americans. Hanna Hall finished national runner-up for the second-straight year, while Koral Sugiyama, Shelby Hall, Michelle Organ and Rosemary Flores finished Top 8 to be named All-American.

The WCWA national championship is the first step in qualifying to wrestle for the United State of America in the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics. The top three athletes in each weight category from the 2016 national championship earned a spot in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials hosted in Iowa City, Iowa on April 9-10.

Campbellsville finished fourth overall out of 25 teams from all over North America. Two-time national champions King University added another one as they became the 2016 national tournament champions. Oklahoma City University, Simon Fraser University and Lindenwood University closed out the Top 5 of the tournament.

Kayla Miracle, who is ranked No. 1 at 130 pounds, wrestled up for the second-straight year at this tournament. Miracle started her championship run in the semifinals against No. 4 Francesca Giogio (136) of Simon Fraser University winning by 4-2 decision. In the championship round Miracle jumped to a 8-0 lead over No. 2 Monica Ramirez of Lindenwood then scored a pin in 3:45.

"This tournament is just a stepping stone looking towards trails and the season is definitely not over," said Miracle. "The WCWA national tournament may be over but we still have University nationals, Olypmic trials and Junior Worlds and trials. Myself and the team will definitely grow and improve from this tournament."

The heavyweight, No. 2 Tiaira Scott, earned her title by tech fall over previous No. 1 Payten Smith (191) from Simon Fraser. She socred a four-point double leg takedown and added three other two-point takedowns. In the semifinals Scott also won by tech fall over No. 8 Paige Baynes of Lindenwood.

"Its pretty cool to accomplish back-to-back national titles and experience this with my team," said Scott. "I would not be here with out the support of my team and Coach Miracle."

Senior Hanna Hall, wrestling in the 170-pound finals, was the second Lady Tiger to wrestle in the final session but fell to No. 1 Victoria Francis. Hall also finished runner-up last year in the 155-pound weight class. 

No. 5 Shelby Hall placed third in the 130 pound weight class, as she wrestled fellow teammate, Rosemary Flores. Flores, who cut weight and wrestled down from her No. 5 ranking at 136, claimed fourth at 130 after losing 8-0. In the consolation semifinals Hall wrestled No. 10 Axa Molina from Lindenwood winning by tech fall. Flores pinned Kalyn Schwartz in 1:21 in the consolation semifinals as well to finish third.

Senior, Michelle Organ placed fourth, as Niauni Hill won by a 8-1 decision in the third place match. Koral Sugiyama placed seventh battling her way out of the consolation round of seven. She won by tech fall over Alexia Ward of McKendree.

Hannah Gladden started the day with All-American aspirations but barely missed that status, falling in the consolation round of four to Kiera Gabaldon of Warner Pacific.

Campbellsville concludes its third WCWA season but some individuals will continue to compete in USA Wrestling events throughout the spring semester and summer.
