Scantland wins in sudden death at MSC, Lady Tigers fall to second

MT. JULIET, Tenn. — Cassidy Scantland held on for her program record 12th collegiate win today, winning in sudden death, at the Mid-South Conference Fall Championship at the Windtree Golf Course.  
 
Scantland beat University of the Cumberlands' Kaitlyn Riley on the first extra hole, after Riley fired a four-under-par 68 in her second round to tie Scantland atop the leaderboard at even par.
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers didn't fair as well.
 
Campbellsville could not validate its opening-round 298 and fell from the top spot, losing to Cumberlands by three shots.
 
The Lady Tigers led by seven going into the second round, but were 16 over today while the Patriots improved 11 shots from their opening-round 305, carding a six-over team-total 294.
 
Scantland was one under on her opening nine before dropping two strokes with bogeys on two of the first four holes on her outward nine and another on her 17th hole. She shot 74 for a two-day total of 144.
 
Ashley Goodin recovered from an opening-day 84 and shot 75 (36-39), moving her up the leaderboard 14 spots to No. 16. Goodin's round included four bogeys and a birdie.
 
Kylie Withrow, who was in third place after day one, was one over on her opening nine before catching two doubles, three bogeys and two birdies on her back nine to shoot 78. She dropped to fifth place.
 
Laura McQueen was three under par through nine holes, but shot a 49 on the back for an 82 and a tie for 19th.
 
Anna-Marie Hyatt shot 77 (40-37) and ended up in a tie for sixth. Hyatt's round included eight bogeys and three birdies.
 
As a team, CU carded 16 birdies. But on the par-4 third hole the team was a combined 10 over par.
 
Michaela Jarman, playing as an individual, shot 77 (35-42). Jarman had three birdies on her opening nine and ended one under. She started the back nine with a double and never recovered form. However, finished in the Top 10 at sixth-place finish.
 
Four Lady Tigers finished in the Top 10, led by Scantland.

The Lady Tigers don't get back on the links until Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17-18 at the Thomas University Invitational in Valdosta, Ga.
