Volleyball sweeps Pikeville to run conference mark to 5-1

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Lady Tiger Volleyball earned their fourth sweep tonight, this time over the University of Pikeville, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21.
 
Maria Coelho earned a double-double tonight, pilling up 11 kills and 10 digs over the three sets to help the Lady Tigers tackle the Bears (12-7, 1-3 MSC).
 
Campbellsville (14-6, 5-1 MSC) started the first set with three service aces and a quick 7-1 run. Coelho, Jessie Stone, and Annija Abolina each recorded three kills for the Tigers. Pikeville attempted a comeback toward the end of the set, closing in at 24-19, but were unable to continue the momentum giving CU the first set 25-19.
 
Beginning the second set, Campbellsville struggled to hold on to the Bears, falling behind 9-5. The Tigers fired back with a 5-1 run to tie the second set at 10, then gained the lead and held on to win, 25-22.
 
Pikeville was determined to turn the match around, fighting neck-and-neck until the third set reached another knot at 10. Campbellsville finally broke away with an 8-0 run and continued with two kills apiece from Coelho, Abolina, Cassidy Mull and Julia Fonseca to win the set, 25-21, and sweep the match.
 
Inoa Fields had 35 of the Tigers' 37 assists, while Savanna Zackman assisted 27 of the Bears' 36 kills.
 
On the defensive end, Jessie Pendleton and Savannah Moss led Campbellsville with 12 digs apiece, followed by Coelho and Fields who each had 10. The Bears' Rachel Murphy totaled 24 digs to drive their defense.
 
Lady Tiger Volleyball will be on the road for two more conference matchups to take on Georgetown College and Shawnee State University. The Tigers will meet Georgetown on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. and will face Shawnee State on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
