PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. — Campbellsville had to rally tonight in the Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium to defeat a pesky Shawnee State team in four sets, 25-15, 26-24, 21-25, 25-19.
The Bears (3-14, 0-9 MSC) lost the first set to the Lady Tigers 25-15 after Campbellsville (15-7, 6-2 MSC) served up five aces, the last of which put CU on top 20-13.
That kind of play carried over into the second set as Campbellsville raced to an 11-5 lead forcing a Shawnee State timeout. After that the match projected a completely different picture.
The Bears went on a 14-5 run in set two to actually take a 22-19 lead before
Savannah Moss (a kill and an ace) and
Maria Coelho (two kills) provided enough punch to eek out a 26-24 win.
But Shawnee State wasn't finished. The Bears ran off from a 10-all tie in the third set to win 25-21. SSU chewed up a couple of runs by the Lady Tigers in set four to force an
Amy Zink timeout with CU leading, 18-17. CU would score six of the next eight points.
