CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. –
Ross Lindsay saved the day for the 12th-ranked Tigers, scoring a golden goal in double overtime to knock off No. 4 Lindenwood University-Belleville, 1-0.
The Tigers' win over the Lynx sustains their record at 2-0 and leaves Lindenwood-Belleville at 1-2 to start the season.
Tonight's matchup proved to be a tough one for both teams who remained scoreless for over 100 minutes. Campbellsville missed multiple scoring opportunities including scathed breakaways by
Antonio Jaen and
Lucas Freitas before entering the overtime periods.
In the 103rd minute, Campbellsville earned a foul on the Lynx which led to Lindsay's game-winner. He led CU in shots, taking four of the 12 total attempted, while
Ignacio Mangada followed closely behind with three.
Playing in goal for the first time this season, Juan Carlos Perez finished with four saves in 102:24 of play. Campbellsville's
Gonzalo Sapena finished the night with just one save as the Lynx finished with six shots in the first half and just one in the second and both overtime periods.
The Tigers will look to continue their winning record at Kentucky Christian University on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. ET. They will return to Finley Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. for a matchup against the Trinity International Trojans.
