BRISTOL, Tenn. —
Koral Sugiyama and
Courtney Gray both earned three pins to lead Campbellsville with a pair of first place finishes at the King University Tornado Open on Sunday.
Sugiyama, wrestling at 136 pounds, pinned her way to the first place finish by taking down Ismiliena Valles (Cumberlands), Abigail Nette (Emmanuel) and teammate
Shelby Hall.
Gray, wrestling at 143 pounds, did the exact same. She pinned her way by taking down Daniela Ramirez (Emmanuel), top-seeded Anissa Martin (Emmanuel) and teammate
Kara Cazeau in the final match. In the three matches, Gray's pins were in 51 seconds, 2:31 and 31 seconds, respectively.
In addition, the Lady Tigers had five runner-up finishes –
Charlotte Fowler (109),
Shelby Hall (130),
Kara Cazeau (143),
Mariah Harris (155) and
Kaitlyn Hill (170).
CU also had three third place finishes –
Morgan Becker (155) and
Sophia Carson (143) and
Jesse Grubbs (191).
In all, the Lady Tigers led the Tornado Open with 15 pins – one more than the University of the Cumberlands and 10 more than top-ranked and host King University. Individually,
Rebecca Carson finished with a pair of pins to sit behind CU's Gray and Sugiyama.
