CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Tigers went on a 12-0 run midway through the first quarter and erased a five-point lead by Spalding and then went on to defeat the Golden Eagles today, 66-30, in the Powell Athletic Center.
CU (19-3) used a balanced attack while building leads of 19-11 at the first-quarter stop and 39-17 at the half. Nine players dotted the scoring column in that first half and Campbellsville had 13 assists on its 16 baskets,
The Lady Tigers led 28-11 with 6:30 to go in the opening 20 minutes before Spalding sub LeLanda Matthews scored six of the next eight points to pull the Golden Eagles to within 13, 28-15. That's as close as they would get.
Jordan Doram scored four of her six first-half points and
Caitlin Hall hit a 3 and a layup with under a minute to go to give Campbellsville its 22-point working margin.
Campbellsville's dominance was displayed by the fact the Lady Tigers led by 30, 55-25, at the end of the third quarter and only one player —
Lexxus Graham — in double figures. The Lady Tigers used another 10-0 run to help manufacture their third-quarter margin of 55-25.
Spalding (9-7) committed seven third-quarter turnovers that helped lead to CU's breakaway. The Lady Tigers held a 45-28 margin in rebounding, 21-9 in assists, 15-9 in steals and 18 more points on 7-for-17 shooting from behind the arc.
CU was led in scoring by Graham's 11.
Abby Miller had 10 points a team-leading six rebounds, along with four assists.
Madison Faulkner had five rebounds.
Caitlin Hall led the team with five assists in just over 15 minutes of play.
Graham had three of CU's 3-point baskets on 3-for-5 shooting.
Emily Fox also had three 3s, on 3-for-8 shooting.
Campbellsville held Spalding to a 25 percent shooting percentage while all the time connecting on 43 percent of their own.
The Lady Tigers are off a week and remain at home Saturday, Jan. 28 for a 1 p.m. game against out-of-conference opponent Wilberforce University in the Powell Athletic Center.
