FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Technical falls doomed the Lady Tigers from the start as No. 1 King University collected a total of six to defeat Campbellsville, 30-11 today in one of two semifinals at the NWCA National Duals.
The Tornadoes took off with four consecutive technical falls to start the dual over
Ruby Ariosa-Danobeytia (101),
McKenzie Bacich (109),
Charlotte Fowler (116), and
Andribeth Rivera (123). Ariosa-Danobeytia fell to No. 1 Marina Doi, 10-0, Bacich to No. 1 Regina Doi, 10-0, Fowler to No. 1 Breonnah Neal, 12-0, and Rivera to No. 1 Haley Augello, 15-5.
Koral Sugiyama (130) broke the technical fall streak with a loss to No. 1 Hanna Grisewood by decision, 7-2, followed by another loss by technical fall by
Shelby Hall (136) to King's Gabby Garcia, 10-0. As a team King held an insurmountable lead, 23-2.
Kayla Miracle (143) stepped up for the Lady Tigers with their first match win, defeating Nicole Joseph with a pin in 1:17, grabbing five dual points for Campbellsville.
Mariah Harris (155) followed suit with a win by decision over No. 2 Jessi Kee, 16-11, to bring the dual score to 24-10 in King's favor.
Two more match losses decided Campbellsville's fate in the dual.
Hanna Hall (170) fell to No. 2 Forrest Molinari by decision, 7-0, and
Rebecca Carson (191) was defeated by Alexis Bleau by decision, 8-6.
The Lady Tigers will wrestle again this afternoon at 2:00 against Oklahoma City University for third place.
