MARIETTA, Ga. – The Campbellsville men's soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to five matches after picking up a 3-1 victory on the road over Life University at Lupo Family Field on Saturday night.
Nathan Heath recorded a goal and an assist for the Tigers (9-1-1, 3-0-1 Mid-South Conference), while
Ignacio Mangada and
Haylen West also recorded goals for Campbellsville. Thierry Jules scored the only goal for the Running Eagles (7-6-0, 2-2-0 MSC).
West broke the ice in the 29th minute of the match with his second goal of the season. Just moments later, Campbellsville came right back with Mangada's team leading ninth goal after Heath picked up the assist.
The Tigers outshot the Running Eagles in the first 45 minutes of play, 10-4, but Campbellsville held just a two-shot advantage in shots on goal, 4-2.
Less than five minutes into the second half, Heath converted on his fifth penalty kick of the season to extend the Tigers lead to 3-0. Heath has six goals on the year with five coming from the penalty spot. The junior is now a 5-for-5 on PKs.
Life tried to work its way back into the match as Jules ended the Campbellsville shutout with a goal in the 68th minute.
Trailing by two goals, the Running Eagles continued to keep the offensive pressure on the Campbellsville sending seven shot toward goal after their first goal of the game. However,
Andreas Nota and the Tiger backline stood up to the task and kept Life at ease en route to the 3-1 victory.
The Running Eagles outshot Campbellsville in the second half, 11-5, and 7-4 in shots on target.
Next up, the Tigers return home on Tuesday night for Senior Night against University of the Cumberlands. Opening kick is set for 8 p.m. ET.
