Yamauchi’s brace leads Men’s Soccer to 3-0 victory over Cumberlands on Tuesday night

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Yudai Yamauchi scored two goals in five minutes to pace the Campbellsville men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over University of the Cumberlands at Finley Stadium.

All three of the Tigers (10-1-1, 4-0-1 Mid-South Conference) goals came in the final 15 minutes of the game. Rickard Hallin picked up two assists on the night.

Neither team found the back net during the first half as Campbellsville recorded 10 total shots in the half with two being saved by Ahmed Ghatwary. Cumberlands (7-5-3, 3-2-0 MSC) only generated two total shots in the half. The Patriots had one shot on goal that came with 11 seconds to play in the half and Zach Wallace forced Andreas Nota to make a diving stop just before time expired.

After going nearly 75 minutes with out goal, Yamauchi sparked the Campbellsville offense with two goals in five minutes. In the 75th minute, Thom Edge played the ball into the box and Yamauchi chested the ball down and then beat the goalkeeper to the near post.

In the 80th minute, the Tigers doubled their lead after Hallin raced down the left wing and found Yamauchi in the middle of the 18-yard box and placed his shot toward the far post to put Campbellsville ahead, 2-0.

The Tigers third goal in 11 minutes mimicked the second goal of the night with Hallin running down the right side, but instead of finding Yamauchi, Hallin found Lucas Batistela for his fourth goal of the season.

Campbellsville controlled possession for most of the second half as it picked up a 3-0 victory over Cumberlands to stay unbeaten in MSC play.

Nota made one save in his fourth shutout of the season as the Patriots did not get off a shot in the second half.

With the win on Tuesday night, Campbellsville remains in second place in the Mid-South Conference standings sitting a half-game back of Lindsey Wilson College with two matches to play.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET as they travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to face Shawnee State University.
