Becker, Harris and Sugiyama earn individual titles while Lady Tigers win team crown at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. — Lady Tiger wrestling dominated the Emmanuel Open on Saturday afternoon to finish first out of 15 teams while three individuals finished first in their weight class.
 
Campbellsville had 14 wrestlers with counting scores totaling over 232 team points. Emmanuel College finished well behind with 173 points, while University of the Cumberlands placed third with 167.5.
 
Koral Sugiyama (136 lbs.), Morgan Becker (155 lbs.) and Mariah Harris (170 lbs.) all placed first for CU. Becker scored 28 team points, while Sugiyama and Harris both totaled 27.5 points.  
 
Sugyiama, the top-seeded grappler at 136 lbs. rolled through the competition the first two matches. After earning a bye in the first round, Sugiyama earned an 11-0 tech fall victory over Jazlyn Jackson of Emmanuel College before picking up a fall over Elissa Douglas from Lyon College. That set up the finals match versus two-seeded Nicole Joseph from King University – which Sugiyama won via decision, 4-3.
 
Becker, who entered the tournament as the two-seeded and rallied through the bottom half of the bracket. She earned a 7-0 decision over Felicity Bryant before making quick work of Vanesa Contreras by pinning her in 44 seconds.
 
In the semifinal round, Becker earned another 7-0 win over Haley Heffel to set up the championship bout with top-seeded Anna Naylor from Cumberlands. Becker once again dominated the competition with a 10-2 upset.
 
Harris was another one-seed for CU at 170 lbs. and did not allow any opponents to score a point all tournament. Harris earned a 10-0 win over Autumn Rux, pinned Jordan Nelson from Life University in 47 seconds and won the championship match over Courtney Tompkins of Cumberlands, 5-0.
 
McKayla Campbell and Courtney Gray both scored over 20 points, as Campbell was fourth on the team with 25 and Gray finished with 22. Campbell finished second behind Lion Wrestling Club standout Cody Pfau at 109 lbs.
 
Gray, competing at 155 lbs., entered as the 10-seed and rallied her way into the semifinals before falling to Anna Naylor with a close 10-9 decision.
