CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Tenth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College got off to a fast start and never looked back as the 14th-ranked Campbellsville men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss in the Battle of Highway 55 on Wednesday night at Finley Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (11-2-0, 7-0-0 Mid-South Conference) outshot the Tigers (11-2-1, 5-1-1 MSC) 25-9 and held a 9-4 edge in shots on goal over Campbellsville.
Lindsey Wilson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Tyler Collishaw whipped a free kick around the Campbellsville wall in the second minute.
Just eight minutes later, Collishaw doubled his goal total in the match and the Blue Raider lead with goal in the 10th minute. Andres Riquelme chipped a pass to Collishaw and he then blasted a shot that deflected off a Campbellsville defender. Collishaw's deflected shot looped high into the air and just over
Andreas Nota to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead early in the contest.
The match started to balance out late in the first half, but neither team could place a shot in the back of the net as the scored remained 2-0 at the half.
To start the second half, Campbellsville looked to cut into its deficit, but a scrum in front of the Blue Raider goal ended with Lindsey Wilson clearing the ball out before the Tigers could poke home a shot.
In the 62nd minute,
Ignacio Mangada had a golden opportunity for Campbellsville, put his shot from 20 yards out sailed just over the crossbar. Following the scoring opportunities for the Tigers, Lindsey Wilson got back out on the front foot.
Yuta Yamamoto scored the Blue Raiders third goal of the match in the 74th minute. Collishaw played a corner kick into the box and after a pair of Campbellsville defenders played the ball down, Yamamoto poked the ball into the net to give Lindsey Wilson a 3-0 lead.
Collishaw completed his hat trick in the 87th minute to seal the 4-0 victory for the Blue Raiders.
With the win, Lindsey Wilson captures the 2017 Mid-South Conference regular season championship.
This is Campbellsville's first conference loss in 23 matches. The last loss for the Tigers in Mid-South Conference play came against St. Catherine College, 2-1, on Oct. 8, 2014.
Campbellsville wraps up its 2017 regular-season schedule on Saturday night against Oakland City University at 8 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium.
