GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The 24th-ranked Campbellsville women's volleyball team started Georgetown College's Boneyard Brawl with a 3-1 loss to 10th-ranked Columbia College, but rebounded with a 3-0 win over Union College to finish the first day of the event.
Kate Harris recorded a pair of 30-assist performances on the day and finished with 70 assists on the day.
Annija Abolina ended with 24 kills to lead the Lady Tigers (21-5), while
Julia Fonseca recorded 10 kills to start the day against the Cougars (28-4) and
Katie Johnson notched 11 kills against the Bulldogs (26-9). Johnson's 11 kills were a match-high and it was her first match reaching double-figure kills in her last five contests.
Marcella Compeau compiled 55 digs on the day and she now has racked up 173 digs over her last seven matches. Compeau has finished her last 15 matches with at least 10 digs.
No. 10 Columbia 3, No. 24 Campbellsville 1
After falling behind 3-1 early in the first set, Campbellsville scored five-straight points to jump ahead, 6-3. The Lady Tigers stretched its lead to 14-8 before Columbia chipped away at its deficit. The Cougars pulled within a point at 16-15, but a 4-0 run from Campbellsville stretched the Lady Tiger lead to five points once again. However, Campbellsville lost the momentum and Columbia closed the set on a 10-1 run to steal the opening set, 25-22.
Neither team took control of the second set until the later portion of the game. The Lady Tigers held an 11-9 lead, but four-straight points from the Cougars allowed them to take their first lead of the set since 1-0. Columbia then found another late set run to push its lead to 23-14 en route to a 25-17 win in set two.
Campbellsville flipped the script in the third set and kept the match alive with a 25-22 third-set win. The Lady Tigers fell behind at 13-11 and erased a four-point deficit to take a 21-20 lead. Columbia then tied the set at 21 and 22, but Campbellsville scored three-straight points to force a fourth set.
The fourth set mimicked the first two sets, where Campbellsville jumped out to an early lead, but it could not maintain the edge. The Lady Tigers did not trail over the first 42 rallies of the fourth set and had its largest lead of four points three different times. Campbellsville held a 21-18 lead after a 3-0 run to break a tie, but a 6-1 run from the Cougars gave them their first lead of the set and put Campbellsville at match point. The Lady Tigers staved off a match point, but a block from Jordan Wolfe allowed Columbia to win the fourth set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.
Over the four sets, Campbellsville hit .131, compared to .242 from the Cougars. Columbia also racked up 13 blocks, while the Lady Tigers only notched six total blocks.

No. 24 Campbellsville 3, Union 0
Campbellsville got back on the winning track and snapped its two-match skid with a sweep of Union. The Lady Tigers grabbed the early momentum in the match going ahead 5-1. However, the Bulldogs slowly worked their way back into the match and took a 15-14 lead – which was just their second lead of set after scoring the first point of the match.
After falling behind, Campbellsville scored seven of the next eight points to get back out on the front foot, 21-16. Union tried to make one more comeback attempt as it trimmed its deficit to 23-21, but back-to-back kills from Abolina shut the door on the Bulldogs rally and the Lady Tigers won the opening frame, 25-21.
The second set carried the same tune as the first. Union struck first but after Campbellsville took the lead two points later, they never trailed the remainder of the set. The Lady Tigers used a 5-1 run to take its largest lead of the match, 16-9, and they rolled to a 25-20 set victory.
Union got off to the fast start in the third set looking to keep the match alive. The Bulldogs had its largest lead of the night at 10-6 and then 11-7, but an 8-2 run gave Campbellsville its first edge of the set at 15-13. A seesaw battle broke out and game was played within a three-point window the rest of the way.
A quick 3-1 run from Union helped it regain the advantage, 22-21, but two-straight points from the Lady Tigers put them back ahead. The Bulldogs bounced back with a point to tie the set for the 14th time, however, Campbellsville notched back-to-back kills and ended the set on 4-1 run to take the third and final set, 25-23.
The Lady Tigers racked up 77 digs during the match and had 42 kills – compared to 34 kills from Union.
Campbellsville concludes the Boneyard Brawl on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. ET contest against Indiana Wesleyan University, followed by a 3 p.m. ET match against Central State University.
