CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Lady Tiger volleyball out-hit Cumberland University .235-.126 on Tuesday night and improved to 10-3 inside Mid-South Conference play after a 3-0 sweep.
The Lady Tigers (23-6) finished the night with 36 kills and a season-high nine service aces to dominate the Phoenix, 25-15, 25-17, 25-19.
Julia Fonseca led all attackers with 12 kills and hit .417 with only two errors, while
Annija Abolina and
Maria Coelho both delivered eight kills.
The reigning NCCAA Player of the Week Katie Harris led CU's passing attack with 30 assists and three service aces.
In the first set, Campbellsville came out on fire by hitting .471 and led 14-3 over Cumberland (15-13, 5-8 MSC) before cooling down to a .289.
The Lady Tigers didn't heat back up but neither did Cumberland. In the second set, CU led 11-7 forcing another Cumberland timeout but the Phoenix rallied to knot the set at 13-all. But it was a quick 4-0 that turned into 12-4 throughout the course of the set giving CU game two, 25-17.
In the third, Cumberland attempt to pace the Lady Tigers but were unable to do so. The Phoenix started the set by hitting .583 but cooled to a measly .154.
The sweep is Campbellsville's 16
th of the season and sixth inside the Mid-South Conference. The Lady Tigers are currently sitting in third place in the standings with one conference match remaining. CU hosts Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday, No. 2 at 7 p.m. ET.
