CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 24th-ranked Campbellsville women's volleyball team dropped its final Mid-South Conference match to top-ranked Lindsey Wilson College, 3-0, on Thursday night at the Powell Athletic Center.
Maria Coelho led the Lady Tigers (22-7, 10-4 MSC) with eight kills, while
Julia Fonseca recorded seven.
Marcella Compeau tallied 13 digs and
Kate Harris had 22 assists.
Following the loss, Campbellsville slips into third place in the MSC standings and will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament next week.
Elly Burke and Yeniffer Ramirez each recorded 10 kills apiece for the Blue Raiders (25-0, 14-0 MSC) and Makenzie Montano has 34 assists on 43 Lindsey Wilson kills.
Lindsey Wilson rolled in the first set scoring 10 of the first 12 points. After trailing 12-3, the Lady Tigers cut its deficit to six points, but the Blue Raiders slowing extended their lead. Lindsey Wilson went on a 5-0 run to take its first double-digit lead of the night, 22-11, en route to a 25-13 win in the first set.
Campbellsville played Lindsey Wilson tight in the second set and led at 3-2, 4-3 and 6-5. However, those were the only three leads the Lady Tigers had throughout the night. With the score knotted at eight, the Blue Raiders scored six-straight points and never looked back.
Despite a 4-1 run from Campbellsville, Lindsey Wilson went on 5-1 run and closed out the second set, 25-18, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third and final set, the Blue Raiders jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage, but the Lady Tigers clawed their way back into the set, and made the score 7-6 after a kill from Fonseca. Campbellsville only scored four points over the next 15 rallies and Lindsey Wilson stretched its lead to 18-10.
Following two-straight points from the Lady Tigers, the Blue Raiders scored seven of the final eight points to complete the sweep with a 25-13 win in the third set.
After being held to a negative hitting percentage in all three sets during the first meeting between the two teams, Campbellsville had a positive hitting mark in each set, but only hit .088 for the match. Lindsey Wilson hit .337 after a third set attacking percentage of .433.
The Blue Raiders out dug and out blocked the Lady Tigers on Thursday night, 54-46 and 7-3 respectively.
Campbellsville rounds out its regular season on Monday night against Indiana University-Southeast at 7 p.m. ET for Senior Night from Powell Athletic Center.
