SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Campbellsville women's swimming squad placed third overall the Sewanee: The University of the South's Igloo Invitational that took place on the Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Tigers finished third with a two-day point total of 464 points. Asbury University won the meet with 902 total points, followed by Sewanee in second with 659 points.
Campbellsville's quartet of Lauren Sears,
Mikayla Runner,
Jen Lewis and Brooklynn Friel started out the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Lady Tiger A squad hit the national standard with a time of 1:46.40, while the B team of
Chelsie VanWhy,
Faith Hyde,
Katy Lewis and
Lexie Upton also hit the national cut after placing second in the B final with a time of 1:47.66.
The first individual event of the meet featured
Katy Lewis, Upton and
Morgan Bryant competing in the B finals of the 200-yard individual medley.
Katy Lewis finished second in the final after touching the wall in 2:25.44. Upton was fourth and Bryant followed in fifth.
Olivia Schneider,
Kate Bouldin and VanWhy took part in the 500-yard freestyle. Schneider led the team in the event placing 14th with a time of 5:58.80 and Bouldin was just behind in 15th. VanWhy capped off the event in 17th.
Campbellsville made up half the field in the B final of the 100-yard breaststroke.
Jen Lewis won the final with a mark of 1:14.24 – which was nearly a second off the national bonus cut.
Kennedy Ludwig placed third in the heat with a mark of 1:17.20. Ludwig was one of four swimmers to finish the race in 1:17. Bryant rounded out that group of swimmers with a 1:17.77 and
Katie Miller was just behind with a time of 1:21.16.
In the B finals of the 200-yard backstroke, Hyde finished third overall after completing the race in 2:27.60. VanWhy rounded out the eight-person B final with a time of 2:33.84.
Four Campbellsville swimmers earned spots in the finals of the 100-yard freestyle. Sears (58.05) won the B final and Runner (1:00.44) placed third in the same heat. In the C final, Schneider won the heat after notching a 1:02.63 and Autumn Turner finished third in that final.
Katy Lewis placed fourth overall in the 200-yard butterfly after completing the race in 2:22.84 and Friel finished just behind in fifth place after touching the wall in 2:23.49.
Lindsey Buckman placed eight after finishing in 2:42.58.
Campbellsville returned to relay action in the 400-yard medley relay. Hyde,
Jen Lewis, Friel and Sears finished fifth in the A finals with a national A standard time of 4:23.94. The Lady Tiger B team of Upton, Bryant,
Katy Lewis and Ludwig also hit the national A cut after compiling a time of 4:36.22.
During the 800-yard freestyle relay, Friel, Hyde, Runner and Sears teamed up to place fourth in the A final and completed the event in 8:40.44. The quartet recorded another national A cut in a relay event for Campbellsville.
In the 200-yard medley relay the Lady Tigers continued its run of national cuts with Hyde,
Jen Lewis, Friel and Sears posting a time of 2:00.45, en route to finishing sixth in the event.
Campbellsville's B team rounded out the event in the 200-yard medley relay after hitting the national cut in compiling a mark of 2:05.35.
Jen Lewis and Upton finished back-to-back in the 400-yard individual medley A finals, completing the race in fifth and sixth respectively.
Of four Lady Tigers in the 50-yard freestyle, Sears was the only one to qualify for the A final, where she placed seventh with a time of 26.59. Sears missed the national bonus cut by less than half second. Ludwig rounded out the B final, while Runner finished third in the C final and Buckman placed sixth in the heat.
Three Campbellsville swimmers made it to the finals of the 100-yard backstroke. Hyde finished sixth in the A final, to go along with a second-place finish from Miller in the B final and Tuner placed seventh in the B final.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Friel (2:05.97) and Runner (2:10:27) placed seventh and eighth in the A final, where Friel hit the national B standard. Four Lady Tigers competed in the B finals of the event with Sears and Schneider going back-to-back in 11th and 12th, followed by Bouldin and VanWhy finishing in 14th and 15th, respectively.
Jen Lewis represented Campbellsville in the 200-yard breaststroke A final, and finished seventh overall with a time of 2:42.92. Bryant, Miller, and Upton touched the wall consecutively in the B final and finished fourth through sixth in the heat.
With individual competitions winding down,
Katy Lewis and Friel finished in 1:03.16 and 1:04.29 in the A final of the 100-yard butterfly.
Katy Lewis just clipped the bonus cut en route to her fifth-place finish. Buckman finished 13th overall in the event after finishing fifth in the B final, followed by Ludwig in 14th.
The final individual competition featured Bouldin finishing eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a 20:43.31 and Hyde placed 12th after completing the distance race in 21:12.08.
Campbellsville concluded the invitational after recording a national A standard in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Ludwig, VanWhy, Runner and
Jen Lewis finished in 4:04.20 to place fifth in the event.
The Lady Tigers are back in action in two weeks with a dual meet at University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
