BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Campbellsville scored three goals in the second half to escape a Mid-South Conference quarterfinal match over University of Pikeville on Thursday night, 3-0.
Campbellsville's defense and midfield dominated the pitch and did not allow a Pikeville shot. The Tigers also controlled the possession but 20 offside calls limited Campbellsville's opportunities.
Ignacio Mangada put the Tigers on the board first in the 66
th minute after a foul just outside the 18-yard box by the goalkeeper leading to a yellow card. Mangada then delivered the free kick goal past the four-man defensive line to uncork the scoreless tie.
Campbellsville put a little breathing room in-between itself an UPIKE with another goal in the 75
th.
Lucas Batistela put the Tigers ahead 2-0 after
Mark Callaghan found his teammate with a cross over the defense.
Batistela added his second goal of the night in the 87
th after Thom Edge passed over the top and Batistela powered a shot past the keeper near post.
The Tigers will now advance into the semifinal match against the winner of No. 3 Cumberland University and No. 6 Georgetown College on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. ET at Warren Central High School.
CU is looking to win back-to-back MSC Tournament championships after defeating Lindsey Wilson College last season in PKs.
With the loss, UPIKE ends its season with a 3-12-1 record.
