MARSHALL, Mo. — No. 2 Lady Tiger wrestling finished in sixth place but
Kaitlyn Hill won the individual championship at 191 lbs. at the Missouri Valley Open this weekend.
Campbellsville earned 147.5 points with only nine wrestlers counting towards the team total. McKendree University won the tournament with 242 points and 18 counting wrestlers.
Hill, a senior from Constantine, Mich., earned the top-seed in the 191-pound weight class and dominated her way through four matches.
After earning a first-round bye, Hill used a 10-0 tech fall over Alexis Tarango of Wayland Baptist before earning three-straight pin falls. She pinned Marissa Patterson in 53 seconds, Solove Naufahu in 4:19, and won the title in 2:45 over Avery Sims.
In addition to Hill, Lexi Foca placed third at 143 lbs.,
Mariah Harris was fourth at 170,
Courtney Gray was fifth at 143,
Morgan Becker finished sixth at 155 and McKayla Campbell finished sixth at 109.
Foca won her way into the semifinal with three wins - a pin over Esmeralda Gracia (1:29), 10-0 tech fall over Skylar Brock and another pin fall over Tatiana Velazquez (1:28). Top-seeded Alexis Porter pulled out a close 9-6 decision over Foca in the semis and ended up winning the bracket.
Foca placed third after defeating Addie Lanning via tech fall 14-4.
Gray earned a first-round by before picking up one win in the championship bracket, a 14-3 tech fall. Brittany Bates, the runner-up at 143lbs., pinned Gray in the quarterfinals pushing her to the consolation round. That's when Gray went 2-1 with win a pair of pins to place fifth.
Harris entered as the second-seed at 170lbs. and won a pair of matches before being upset by Dymond Guilford of Missouri Baptist, 8-2. In the consolation bracket, Harris won three matches but fell to Guilford once again to place fourth.
Next up for CU Lady Tiger wrestling is the Mid-South Conference Championship on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.
