KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Campbellsville men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Southern Wesleyan University on Monday afternoon to start the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida.
The Tigers (13-4-2) return to action on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. ET against Bethel College to wrap up pool play at the Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.
In the 110 minute of action, Campbellsville outshot the Warriors (11-6-4), 14-9, but the Tigers only put four shots on target.
Andreas Nota stopped all three shots that came his way to post his sixth shutout of the season and Campbellsville's 11th of the year.
Of the four shots on goal the Tigers had in the match,
Yudai Yamauchi recorded two of the shots after coming off the bench.
In regulation, Campbellsville outshot the Warriors, 14-7, but Southern Wesleyan was the only side to generate shots in the overtime periods. Of the two shots for the Warriors had, neither hit the target.
In the final seconds of the second overtime period, the Tigers looked to generate one last scoring chance with a corner kick in the waning seconds. However,
Jorge Martinez's corner kick was unable to turn into a shot as the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Each team now earns one point in the Pool B standings. Bethel faces Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday in the second of three matches in the pool.
Following the results, Campbellsville has now gone 292:54 without scoring a goal, which dates back to the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Nov. 2. The Tigers are also winless over the three matches recording a tie and two losses.
After an off day on Tuesday, Campbellsville is back in action on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. ET against Bethel College to wrap up competition in Pool B from the Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex.
