KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Nathan Heath scored Campbellsville's first goal of the NCCAA National Championship in the 66th minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 victory over Bethel College in the final pool play game at Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex on Wednesday night.
Andreas Nota recorded eight saves to notch his seventh shutout of the season as Campbellsville (14-4-2) stayed alive in the NCCAA National Championship and won Pool B with four points.
In a tightly contested first half, Campbellsville held the edge over the Pilots (12-7-3) in shots, 8-7, but Bethel had six of shots hit the target, while Campbellsville forced Philip Keller to make just two saves in the first 45 minutes of action.
The Tigers got out on the front foot in the second half and held early offensive pressure in the half. Following an early yellow card to the Pilots, Campbellsville had its third corner kick of the match, but could not generate goal.
Heath converted on the Tigers next chance at goal with his 10th goal of the season. Heath's goal snapped a scoreless drought of 352:02 for Campbellsville.
Cameron Badenhorst notched his third assist of the season on the goal.
Following the goal, Campbellsville started to ramp up the offensive pressure and outshot Bethel 7-3 in the second half and Keller was forced to make three saves down the stretch to keep it a one-goal contest.
Bethel tried to generate one last offensive attack, but Nota recorded a save in the 74th minute and one last stop in the 90th minute to keep the Pilots off the scoreboard.
The victory snaps a three-game stretch where the Tigers did not pick up a win and this is their 12th shutout of the season.
Campbellsville keeps its postseason run alive and will play at 2 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon from the Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex in Kissimmee, Fla., in the NCCAA National Championship Semifinals.
The Tigers will wait to see who their semifinal opponent will be following the last pool play match on Wednesday night.
