Coelho and Johnson's career night leads Lady Tigers past Southern Wesleyan in NCCAA Pool Play

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Maria Coelho and Katie Johnson both delivered career nights as Campbellsville went 2-0 in NCCAA Volleyball Championship Pool Play on Thursday.
 
The Lady Tigers defeated Southern Wesleyan in four sets tonight, (22-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-21).
 
Coelho led Campbellsville with 24 kills and hit .391 on the night, while Johnson finished with 19 and hit .444. Johnson also delivered a double-double with 14 digs.
 
Campbellsville (28-9) out-killed the Warriors (18-15), 65-42.
 
Southern Wesleyan used its defensive front line in the first set to steal game one, 25-22. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 6-2 lead but the Warriors rallied with an 8-0 run to lead, 10-6.
 
Campbellsville had one more rally in the opening set, going on a 7-2 run and regaining the lead, 16-15. Both teams traded points and timeouts until the Warriors took a 23-22 advantage. Southern Wesleyan used a pair of blocks to seal the opening game, 25-22.
 
The Lady Tigers answered right back in the second game to lead 12-6 and later on 18-9. Campbellsville was hitting on all cylinders in that second set with 15 kills and one error, hitting .500 from the floor. The Lady Tigers dominated the set, 25-10.
 
In the third, it was a nip-and-tuck set. The Warriors used the block once again to lead, 14-13, but the Lady Tigers answered right back with a 5-0 to regain the advantage, 18-15, and forcing Southern Wesleyan to call a timeout.

Out of the break, Julia Fonseca delivered one of her four kills and Johnson finished with another before the Warriors fell victim to a couple errors. In the second and third set, Southern Wesleyan hit its lowest percentage all match with .077 and .175.
 
In the final game, Southern Wesleyan called another timeout as Campbellsville led 13-9. Both teams traded points until Coelho delivered her final three kills and pushed CU's lead to three, 21-18.
 
Savannah Moss put CU ahead with her lone point, 23-19, and Johnson put-down a pair of kills to seal the match.
 
Campbellsville now has a quick turnaround and will play Life Pacific College at 10 a.m. ET. The Lady Tigers also play at 4 p.m. vs. SAGU to complete pool play.
