KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Lady Tiger volleyball continued its NCCAA Championship Pool Play reign and won a nip-and-tuck match over Pacific Life University early this morning, 3-1.
Campbellsville took control of the first two sets but the Warriors stole the third before the Lady Tigers sealed the win in the fourth (25-16, 25-18, 25-27, 25-21).
Campbellsville improves to 29-9 on the year and will play once again tonight at 4 p.m. ET vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God (SAGU) to complete pool play. Fans can follow the action at the links attached.
Freshman setter Katie Harris went down with a right ankle sprain but it was transfer setter
Maliyah Tela stepping up when her team needed her the most with 37 assists – the most since Sept. 29 vs. Columbia College (45). Tela didn't just do it with her nifty passing, she also finished with six kills, six digs and a pair of blocks.
Annija Abolina led CU with 16 kills, while
Maria Coelho carded 11.
Campbellsville came out swinging in the opening frame to take an 11-6 lead and kept that advantage until Harris went down with the injury leading 15-11.
The Lady Tigers pushed their lead to 19-15 and ended the set on a 6-1 run to win, 25-19. CU put up a match-high 20 kills in the first set with only six errors.
Set No. 2 was a battle but CU used offensive efficiency to register a hitting percentage of .375 with 16 kills and four errors.
Pacific Life took its first lead in the second set by using aggressive serving and the Lady Tigers struggling with service reception. The Warriors led 11-7 forcing coach
Amy Zink to call a timeout and CU answered the call.
The Lady Tigers came right back with an 8-4 run after a spark by freshman
Whitney Perian. She entered for
Julia Fonseca and finished with five kills and four blocks.
CU pushed that run to 18-7 and hit a match-high .375 in the second set to lead the match 2-0.
The third set wasn't as pretty for Campbellsville. CU finishing with a match-low 10 kills and Pacific Life capitalized with its highest mark of 15 kills and hitting percentage of .214.
CU held match-point, 24-23, but Pacific Life rallied to win its lone set, 27-25.
Campbellsville battled once again in the fourth. CU registered eight kills and held Pacific Life to zero to double-up the Warriors, 14-7.
Campbellsville was able to hold on in the fourth to win, 25-21.
The Lady Tigers will now look to complete pool play with a 4-0 record and plays SAGU today at 4 p.m.
