Lady Tigers join Cumberlands, Ohio State and Princeton to open 25th Annual Beast of the East

NEWARK, Del. — For the first time in the 25-year history of arguably the biggest high school wrestling tournament, Campbellsville University women's wrestling is one of four college teams that have been invited to kickoff the Beast of the East Championship.

This season, the tourney weekend is expanding to three days, with Friday night duals on Dec. 15. The second-ranked Lady Tigers are traveling to the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Deleware to dual with No. 10 University of the Cumberlands. Both NAIA programs are joining men's teams from The Ohio State University and Princeton University. The duals will start at 5:30 p.m. ET.

Fans can stream the duals live on Trackwrestling.

"This is a great opportunity to wrestle on a big stage in front of a lot of people," said coach Lee Miracle. "These kinds of events really help us with building the overall program. It provides a unique recruiting opportunity through the media and it generates publicity that will naturally occur when you are wrestling next to the likes of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

"One of the other things that I like about doing an event like this is that it puts our athletes in an environment that will test them mentally. There will be a lot going on and they will have to remain focused on the task at hand. The University of the Cumberlands has some great wrestlers and Coach Stephens and his staff always do a great job preparing their athletes. I am sure they are looking at film and making adjustments to match up well with our team. We need to approach this dual in a professional businesslike manner and avoid being distracted until after the competition."

Campbellsville and Cumberlands have met already this season for a pair of duals. The Lady Tigers won the first matchup on Oct. 22, 35-11, and again on Nov. 15, 31-12.

CU is also familiar with Princeton University after competing in the NWCA All-Star Classic on Princeton's campus on Nov. 6. Kayla Miracle and Charlotte Fowler both earned wins in their respective weight classes.
