CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. —
Madison Stewart finished one point away from tying her career-high and Campbellsville University grabbed 17 offensive rebounds compared to just two for the 23
rd-ranked Pikeville Bears, en route to a 70-58 victory.
Stewart finished with 17 points and four rebounds in 21 minutes of play. She was flaked by
Emily Fox and
Madison Clements both pitching in 13.
Abby Miller led all rebounders with nine.
The Lady Tigers out-rebounded UPIKE 41-27 and scored 16 second chance points off those 17 offensive boards. Also, CU forced 19 turnovers and scored 23 points off those miscues.
In addition to the Bears' rebounding and turnover game, UPIKE struggled from the charity stripe hitting just 53 percent (8-of-15).
The Lady Tigers (22-4, 8-3 MSC) went on a big second quarter run and UPIKE (18-8, 6-5 MSC) was unable to recover late. Going into the second stanza CU led 16-15 but it was a 19-6 run that sparked Campbellsville. In that decisive second quarter, both Stewart and Fox scored five points, while Clements pitched in four and
Lexxus Graham nailed one of her two 3s. In addition, after CU took a double-figure lead, the Bears were unable to get that lead any lower than 11 points.
Stewart kept the pedal to the floor in the second half, scoring right out of the gates and was followed by a Miller bucket and a Fox 3 – one of her three triples on the day – to give the Lady Tigers their biggest lead to that mark of 18 points, 42-24.
In the fourth quarter, Graham splashed her second 3 pushing CU's lead to 19, 61-42, and
Madison Faulkner followed just 23 seconds later with a bucket to give Campbellsville a 21 points advantage – the largest of the day.
UPIKE out-shot Campbellsville percentage wise, hitting 22-of-45 (49%) compared to 29-of-70 (41%) for the Lady Tigers.
