ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Fast greens and high winds played major factors in the opening tournament of the spring for Lady Tiger golf, as Campbellsville dropped one spot and finished in fifth place at the Georgetown College Invitational.
The Lady Tigers improved their first-round score by one stroke but St. Andrews jumped CU by four shots to finish fourth.
"Overall we played pretty well in tough conditions on a tough course," said coach
Terry Grider. "We saw, and were paired with, some really good teams that are at the top of NAIA poll and we played right with them for the most part. I'm really proud of the effort our team gave and am looking forward to the upcoming spring schedule."
Defending national champion Keiser University finished with both rounds in the 200s to pace the field by 21 strokes. The Skyhawks shot 291-298 (589), while Dalton State finished second with 304-306 (610). SCAD-Atlanta improved their second round score by seven shots to finish third (326-319, 645) and St. Andrews finished fourth (336-313, 649).
Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was senior
Anna-Marie Hyatt with a 15
th place finish. Hyatt shot 83-76 to pace Campbellsville, while sophomore
Kylie Withrow was tied for 20
th with consecutive 82s.
Kayla Rodgers, who opened her career with a six-over 78 in round one, fell off the pace by eight strokes, shooting a second round 86. She also finished in a three-way tie for 20
th.
Senior
Ashley Goodin, who was playing as an individual, improved her first round score by two shots, 84-82, to place 23
rd and
Michaela Jarman finished tied for 24
th by shooting 84-83.
Rounding out the Lady Tigers was freshman
Sarah Dickens shooting 90-85.
Keiser had all five golfers place in the Top 5 with Elsa Westin taking home medalist honors by shooting 73-71 (144).
The Lady Tigers will now have almost one month to prepare for the three-day Mid-South Conference Spring Championship hosted at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky., on March 19-21.
