MARSHALL, Mo. — Campbellsville (6-13) moved up in class at Missouri Valley College, losing today to No. 1 Park University and to the host No. 7 Vikings.
Park 3, Campbellsville 0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-15)
The No. 1 team in the NAIA hit a solid .426 and turned away the Tigers in three sets.
Park (12-0) held a 33-29 advantage in kills and committed half as many errors — seven to 14.
Bryce Johnson's nine kills led the Tigers.
Rafael Cruz and
Adam Conklin added seven apiece.
Philip Turia assisted on 25 of the points and Johnson had nine digs to lead the team in that category.
Park put together a 5-2 run and pulled away in the first set after CU had closed to within 15-14.
In the second set, Park scored 10 of the set's first 14 points. Then in the third set, Park went on a 10-4 run when Campbellsville closed to 13-9.
Missouri Valley 3, Campbellsville 0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-14)
The No. 7 Vikings (11-7) kept CU at bay and won in three sets.
The Tigers were within 13-12 in the first set before MVC went on a 9-6 run and gained enough separation to put the set away.
In the second set, the Vikings took a 10-4 lead and never let CU get any closer than five until the Tigers went on a mini rally to close to within 21-18. But Missouri Valley scored four of the next six points to seal that set as well.
In the third set, the Viking pulled away early for the 25-14 win.
Rafael Cruz led the team in kills with seven, but the Viking held a 45-22 advantage in that statistical category.
Philip Turia had 14 assists and Noel Camelio had five digs.
Campbellsville will stay on the road Saturday, Feb. 25 when stay in Marshall, Mo. and play Briar Cliff (noon) and Ottawa (4 p.m.)
