MARSHALL, Mo. — Facing the toughest competition so far this year, Campbellsville men's volleyball was swept on Saturday afternoon in the Missouri Valley Invitational by Ottawa University and Briar Cliff University.
Adam Conklin led the Tigers with 21 kills in the two matches, while
Bryce Johnson finished with 19.
Campbellsville's record falls to 6-14 overall but the Tigers boast a 4-1 record inside conference play.
Match one vs. Briar Cliff (25-17, 25-21, 25-17)
The Tigers struggled hitting just .209 in the match and fell victim to 19 service errors. Johnson led CU by hitting .346 with 13 kills and Conklin followed with 12.
Campbellsville came out swinging in the first set with 13 kills on 22 attacks, hitting .409 but that number dropped to .121 and .161 in the second and third sets, respectively.
Match two vs. Ottawa (25-22, 25-18, 25-8)
Like the opening match of the doubleheader, Campbellsville came out battling but faultered down the stretch. Conklin led CU with four kills in the opening set, while Johnson and
Rafael Cruz both delivered three.
But CU only had 10 kills in the second set and hit .179. In the third, it was all Ottawa, as the Tigers hit -.042 with five kills in 24 attacks.
Campbellsville will now host a pair of conference matches on Thursday and Friday, March 2-3. The Tigers host Bryan College on Thursday night and Warner University on Friday. First serves go up at 7 p.m. ET.
