Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Jordan Alves

Conklin's double-double is not enough for the Tigers, falling in straight sets to Morningside

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — After taking down Lawrence Tech earlier in the day, Campbellsville men's volleyball could not keep its momentum going throughout the nightcap, falling in straight sets to to Morningside College, 25-23, 25-13 and 25-19.

Adam Conklin led Campbellsville with 18 kills on 34 attacks and finished 10 digs for a double-double. Morningside finished with 39 kills compared to 34 for the Tigers, but CU finished hitting .102 with 25 attacking errors. The Mustangs hit .337 with only 10 errors.

The Tigers (8-16) were playing right with the Mustangs (5-16) in the first set and led 21-20 but Morningside finished on a 5-2 run to take game one.

Campbellsville could not find its groove in the second. The Mustangs led 3-2 and ended up going on a 14-5 run to take a 17-7 advantage and never looked back.

In the third, the Tigers gave Morningside everything they wanted and tied the game at 10-all. But the Mustangs went on a 9-2 run to lead 19-12. Campbellsville rallied back, though, with seven of the next 11 points to cut the deficit to six, 23-17. But CU dug itself too big of a hole to climb out of, falling 25-19 in the final set.

In addition to Conklin's 18 kills, Philip Turia led CU with 28 assists, while Caden Toben led the match with 35.

Raul Rivera Rojas finished with 17 kills to lead the Mustangs.
