Box Score 2 PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. — Campbellsville got its Mid-South Conference softball slate started on a good note with a double header sweep today of Shawnee State, 12-2 and 9-0,
The Lady Tigers (15-7, 2-0 MSC) pounded out 24 hits in the two five-inning games. The sweep was highlighted by
Tori Humphrey's fourth and fifth home runs of the season in the first game and
Hailey Szpila's three run homer in the second game. Humphrey had seven hits and four RBIs in the two games.
Shawnee (6-5, 0-2) MSC) picked up only three hits against
Morgan Gailor and
Neely Quint.
GAME 1 – Campbellsville 12, Shawnee 2
Campbellsville used a 14-hit performance to run-rule Shawnee in the first game of a double header, 12-2.
Morgan Gailor (6-3) gave up a Shawnee run in the first and another in the third, but she only allowed only two hits along the way.
The Lady Tigers got on the board in the second after trailing 1-0.
Hailey Szpila drew a one-out walk and after a
Tori Humphrey single,
Markie Smith doubled home two runs.
Brittany Rippy then doubled home a third run for a 3-1 lead that CU would never relinquish.
CU made it 5-1 in the third with Humphrey's team-leading fourth home run of the season with
Alexis Smith aboard.
The Bears used a leadoff walk in the third to close the gap to 5-2, but it was all Campbellsville from there on out.
The Lady Tigers had three-run fifth and sixth innings before
Rachel Denkins came in and shut the door with back-to-back strikeouts and coaxing a liner to
Madison Mudd in center.
Humphrey had five hits and four RBIs and Rippy had another big day at the plate with four hits and three RBIs.
Mia Aldridge had three singles and four RBIs.
GAME 2 – Campbellsville 9, Shawnee 0
A five-run third inning set the table for CU in the second game of the twin bill as the Lady Tigers won, 9-0.
Jacqueline Roof lead off the game with a double and it just got worse after that for the Bears.
Madison Mudd reached on an error and Roof scored all the way from first. Alexia Smith (RBI) and
Brianna Scott both singled and
Hailey Szpila hit her fourth homer of the season, a three-run shot, a bomb to center.
Campbellsville scored twice more in the fourth and fifth innings to put CU up 9-0. A one-two-three inning by
Neely Quint in the fifth secured the run-rule win.
Quint (8-4) allowed one hit in her five innings of work.
Humphrey and Scott had two hits apiece. Roof had a double and
Alexis Smith, Aldridge and Mudd had one hit each.

The Lady Tigers continue in Portsmouth, Ohio with games 3 and 4 of the four-game series with the Shawnee State Bears — games Sunday, March 19 (noon and 2).
