LEBANON, Ky. —
Cassidy Scantland and the Lady Tigers overcame high wind gusts all day to sit in the driver's seat at the Campbellsville University Invitational at Rosewood Golf Club.
The Lady Tigers are looking for back-to-back tourney wins after winning the William Penn Invitational two weeks ago. CU, which shot a 319, owns an 18-stroke lead over Bellarmine University, which finished at 337.
Scantland, also looking for consecutive wins for the first time since her freshman season, is three strokes ahead of the field. She fired a first-round 75.
Teammate
Ashley Goodin was right behind her with a six-over 78 to be tied for second place. Fellow senior
Anna-Marie Hyatt is tied for seventh after an opening round 80.
Kylie Withrow and
Michaela Jarman rounded out the Lady Tigers Top 5 with 86 and 89s to be tied for 13
th and 17th, respectively.
Scantland fell victim to a bogey on her first hole – No. 10 – and a double on her second – No. 11 – to drop back three strokes from the get-go. But she rolled in a birdie at the par-five 13
th and another at the par-four 15
th to get back to one-over. She gave those two strokes back after bogeys on the par-fours 17
th and 18
th to go out in 39.
On the front – her second nine holes – Scantland carded another pair of birdies on the first and third holes but finished with an even 36 for her 75.
Goodin had a pair of birdies throughout her round – the par-four 16
th and fourth holes.
In addition to the Lady Tigers Top 5, CU had three playing as individuals.
Sarah Dickens led the three with a 12-over 84, while
Kayla Rodgers shot 19-over 91 and
Olivia Parrott finished at 28-over with a 100.
Round two of the Campbellsville Invitational is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. ET at Rosewood Golf Club.
