Hyatt, Lady Tigers sit in second place after opening round of Mid-South Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — After a few rainy days in the southern Kentucky area, Lady Tiger golf and the entire field of 36 could not take advantage of soft green conditions at Bowling Green Country Club. CU had just two scores in the 70s, while three were 81 or higher.

Campbellsville sits in second place with a team score of 319 - just two strokes behind regular season champion University of the Cumberlands, which shot 317.

Anna-Marie Hyatt paced CU with an opening round five-over 77. She is three shots behind Cumberlands' Annabeth McKay after she leads the field with an opening round two-over 74.

Hyatt struggled on her first nine holes – the back nine – by going out with a five-over 41. She was steady on the final nine with seven pars but did gain a stroke back after birding the par-three third hole. Hyatt fell back one shot after bogeying the par-four ninth.

Cassidy Scantland, the two-time MSC Golfer of the Year and 2014 MSC Champion, sits in a tie for third place after an opening round 78. Scantland was able to roll in three birdies on her final nine holes but fell victim to seven bogeys and a double on the par-four first.

Kylie Withrow rounds out the Lady Tigers in the Top 10 and is tied for seventh after a first-round 81. She was steady for the most par of the day but a pair of double bogeys on the 17th and eighth holes dropped her a combined four-strokes.

Ashley Goodin, one of three Lady Tigers playing in her fourth MSC Championship, dropped a combined eight strokes on four holes after finishing with four double bogeys. Goodin was able to get a stroke back with a birdie on the par-five second during her final nine holes. She is tied for 13th.

Michaela Jarman was solid in her first nine holes but finished nine-over on the final nine. She doubled the 11th and then finished with three straight double bogeys on holes 3-5. Jarman rounds out the Lady Tigers and is tied for 17th.

Also in the Top five for individual is reigning NAIA champion Kaitlyn Riley (78, T3) and Morgan Stuckey (79, 5th).

Rounding out the team scores – Cumberlands (317), Campbellsville (319), Cumberland U. (324), Lindsey Wilson (333), Pikeville (345), Georgetown (376) and Shawnee State (438).

The second round will get underway on Tuesday, April 25 at 9 a.m. ET. The Lady Tigers five golfers will start their rounds out at 10:03 a.m. ET, as Ashley Goodin starts CU off on hole No. 1.
