Lady Tigers stay in second, Scantland moves to first after second round of the MSC Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Senior Cassidy Scantland is 18 holes away from capturing her second Mid-South Conference championship and third Golfer of the Year honor, after she slides into the lead with an even-par 72 after the second round of the MSC Tournament.

Scantland, who won the title back in 2014 and was MSC Golfer of the Year in 2014 and 2016, is seeking tournament title No. 15 in her career. Today, Scantland led the Lady Tigers with the even-par round, but outside of her score, CU had its struggles.

The Lady Tigers were leading the field after 12 holes today and up on University of the Cumberlands by two strokes, but the Patriots turned the table over the last six holes to lead by 11 strokes at the end of the round.

Scantland started slow with a bogey on the par-four first but birdied two of the final three holes on the front nine to go out at one-under. She then bogeyed the par-four 15th to finish at even for the day.

Sophomore Kylie Withrow improved three strokes from her opening round 81. Withrow started slow once again with bogeys on two of the first four holes and a double on the par-five fifth, but she came right back with a birdie on the sixth to go out with a four-over, 40. Withrow was steady on her final nine with just a pair of bogeys to finish with a six-over 78 and currently sits in solo seventh.

Anna-Marie Hyatt is also in the Top 10 but fell off the pace today by seven strokes 77-84. Hyatt started slow and never recovered after double-bogeying two of the first four holes. She finished with eight bogeys on the round and did not roll in any birdies.

Ashley Goodin was rolling in her first nine but the back-nine was a struggle. After going one-over on the front, Goodin recorded five bogeys and a quadruple bogey on the par-five 14th dropping to tied for 16th with a 10-over 82.

Michaela Jarman rounded out the Lady Tigers with a 14-over 86 and is tied for 21st.

After Cumberlands and Campbellsville, Cumberland University is third (649), Lindsey Wilson is fourth (654), Pikeville is fifth (686), Georgetown is sixth (739) and Shawnee State is seventh (909).

Round three of the MSC championship gets underway at 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning at Bowling Green Country Club.
