Baseball Central: Senior Weekend is pushed to Saturday and Sunday vs. Georgetown College

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Weather has once again forced Tiger baseball to have a full week without playing but Campbellsville doesn't have time to make excuses as Georgetown College comes to town this weekend. But like last weekend, weather has pushed the Mid-South Conference series with the Tigers to Saturday and Sunday.

Senior Weekend is scheduled for one game Saturday and a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is slated to start at 5 p.m. ET and the doubleheader on Sunday will start at 1:30. Senior Day ceremonies will be in-between the games on Saturday at approximately 4:30 p.m. ET

All three games can be streamed on the Campbellsville University Sports Network and online at www.CampbellsvilleTigers.com/watch.

The Tigers have just two Mid-South Conference series' left (Georgetown and at Cumberlands) and are sitting in fourth place in the standings. The top four teams are all playing on Friday and Saturday, so this weekend could pave the way for the regular season standings.

CU boasts and overall record of 19-14 and 7-5 inside MSC play. Cumberlands is 29-10 overall and tied with Lindsey Wilson at 7-2 inside conference. Georgetown is one full game ahead of the Tigers with an 8-4 record and 25-10 overall. Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands are both battling on the diamond this weekend as well in Williamsburg, Ky.

After winning eight of its last 10 games to start the MSC portion of its schedule, Campbellsville enters the weekend winning just three of the last seven games. The Tigers started the MSC portion schedule by winning three consecutive series' but lost its first at Lindsey Wilson last weekend in Columbia. In addition, CU dropped a non-conference game to Indiana University Southeast last week as well.

Timely hitting has been CU's nemesis all season. The Tigers boast a team batting average of .280 and have scored 152 runs. In the 33 games this year, CU is averaging just 4.6 runs per game.

Clay Valenzuela-Reece and Matt Valdez have led CU all season at the plate. Valenzuela-Reece boasts a .350 average and is tied with the team lead with two home runs. Valdez is hitting .339 with a team-leading 21 RBI.

The pitching staff has been solid but errors have haunted the Tigers as well. Boasting a team-ERA of 3.35, Nick Przybylek, who won 10 games a year ago, has been slotted as the No. 1 starter but carries in a 3-3 record overall. Indalecio Romo has come off Tommy John Surgery and has been lights out, boasting a 1.04 ERA in four games and three starts. He has started the seven-inning game of the doubleheader on MSC Saturday's. Malik Evans has started seven games for the Tigers – second behind Przybylek – but has been haunted with inconsistent defense, allowing seven unearned runs.

Georgetown's pitching staff matches up right with CU statistically but the three weekend starters of Kyle Fieger, Michael Conrad and Breion Barron have been solid on the hill. Barron and Conrad are both fourth and fifth in the MSC with ERA's of 2.53 and 2.57, respectively. Kieger and Conrad are both second in the conference with seven and six wins, respectively.

Offensively, Georgetown is led by Rodnee Little's .387 average and 28 RBI. GC has 12 Tigers batting .280 or higher as well.

After this week, Campbellsville has seven games against non-conference foes before traveling to Cumberlands on April 21-22.
