OKLAHOMA, City — Campbellsville and Friends University are hanging on by the skin of their teeth at the NAIA Opening Round and the team that can survive today's game at noon ET earns the right to take on Oklahoma City in an afternoon win-or-go-home encounter.
Friends comes into the game after putting College of Idaho out of the tournament with a 9-6 win under the lights on Tuesday.
The Oklahoma winds are expected to be up again and both teams will probably be facing depleted pitching staffs.
Campbellsville (34-20) vs. Friends University (33-21)
Campbellsville hasn't been tearing the cover off the ball in the NAIA and they'll have to improve in that category in what could turn out to be a runfest.
Leading CU this year is
Clay Valenzuela-Reece's .333 batting average. Including Valenzuela-Reece, six of the Tigers main nine position players are hitting above .300, while the other three are just a few percentage points under the .300 mark. The power bats in the lineup come from
Romello Carbuccia (30 RBI) and
Brett Hamilton (38 RBI) who have launched six homers apiece, and have driven in a combined 68 runs.
The Falcons are led at the plate by Augie Iaacson who sports a robust .426 batting average. Five other teammates are hitting .307 or better.
