PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Play was suspended today as Round 1 of the 23
rd Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championship neared completion. However, 12 of the 30 teams were still on the course when a heavy downpour hit the PGA National.
Campbellsville, which shot a 333, is tied for 19
th and nestled among a pack of teams within seven shots of each other.
Michaela Jarman led CU with an 81 (42-39). The Lady Tigers carded a combined 10 double bogeys during the round, but Jarman only had one of those to go along with one of the three birdies recorded by her team.
Anna-Marie Hyatt and Kayle Rodgers had the other two birdies.
Ashley Goodin shot 82 (40-42),
Anna-Marie Hyatt 84 (43-41), Kaylie Withrow 86 42-44 and
Kayla Rodgers 93 (43-50).
Courtney Dye of Indiana Tech and Aleesha Smith of William Carey both shot even par 72s to hold the individual lead.
Oklahoma City was +18 for the day (306) and held a five-shot lead over Northwestern Ohio, which was one of the teams whose round was halted.
Rain forced a nearly an hour and a half-long delay in the evening and ultimately caused a postponement of play with more storms and darkness rolling in. Along with the approaching storms, golfers also faced winds that picked up throughout the afternoon.
The postponement did not allow all of the teams teeing off in the afternoon wave to finish their rounds. The teams that did not complete the first round will continue play at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning and the second round will be started at 7:30 a.m.
Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers will tee off tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. ET in the second round.
