FLORENCE, Ala. — Campbellsville's
Dakota Cantrell and
Austin Moore were unable to keep their momentum going in the Boat US Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Cabela's, dropping 40 positions on the leaderboard to 71
st.
The top Campbellsville duo caught a limit on Day 1 but only reeled in four on Day 2 that totaled over nine pounds but engine trouble forced the guys to miss their deadline to report in from the lake and a three-pound penalty proved costly. It their weight to 6.18 pounds and the duo finished with a championship total of 20.74 pounds.
University of North Alabama's Sloan Pennington and Hunter McCarty won by less than a pound after catching a limit both days and reeling in over 21 pounds in each. Their Day 2 total of 23.31 pounds was just enough to outlast Auburn University's Mitchell Jennings and Cole Burdeshaw's 43.62 pounds.
Tusculum's Nick Hatfield and Corey Neece also finished with over 40 pounds in the two-day championship to finish third with 40.07 pounds.
Campbellsville has two more tournaments in the next two weeks but only one Tiger –
Mason Sapp - qualified for the FLW National championship on May 31 — June 2. He will travel down to Wheeler Lake.
The Tigers will have one last chance to qualify for the BASS Championship, which is being hosted in Minnesota this season. The Wildcard Tournament is scheduled for June 8-10 on Lay Lake in Alabama.
