Women’s Volleyball earns 3-0 wins over Mobile and Martin Methodist at Southeastern Challenge

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Campbellsville women's volleyball team moved to 4-0 on the season with sweeps over University of Mobile and Martin Methodist College on the first day of the NAIA Southeastern Challenge in Columbia, Ky.
 
Annija Abolina led the Lady Tigers with 25 total kills on the day, while Maliyah Tela recorded 63 assists in the victories over the Rams (8-1) and RedHawks (4-2). Savannah Moss recorded a team-high 25 digs for the day.

The Lady Tigers started the NAIA Southeastern Challenge with a 3-0 sweep over Mobile – who is receiving votes in the national preseason poll. The two teams traded points with the score staying within two points over the first 18 rallies. After falling behind 9-8, the Lady Tigers went on 5-0 run to create separation and grab a 13-9 lead over the Rams.
 
Campbellsville kept the lead the remainder of the set and had its largest lead of eight points late at 24-16. Mobile tried to rally back scoring back-to-back points, put the Lady Tigers countered with the next two points to win the first set, 25-18.
 
Mobile tried to right the ship in the second set jumping out to a 4-1 lead and then holding that three-point lead to 7-4. However, the Lady Tigers were able to tie the set at seven. Neither team could create separation during the first half of second set as the scored was tied at nine, 11 and 12 points.
 
Campbellsville found another mid-set spurt and scored five-straight points and took a 17-12 lead. The Lady Tigers stretched its lead to as many as nine points, 24-15, en route to winning the second set, 25-17.
 
With a 2-0 lead in the match, Campbellsville got off to fast start in the third set scoring the first three points. The Rams battled back and tied the match, 3-3, but the Lady Tigers went on an early run to take a 12-6 advantage.
 
Campbellsville once again grabbed a nine-point lead – which was its largest lead in the third set – at 22-13. After the Lady Tigers took a 12-6 lead, the closest Mobile got was five points. The Lady Tigers completed the sweep of the Rams winning the third set, 25-16.
 
 
Campbellsville recorded a hitting percentage of .323 for the match, while Mobile hit .213 overall.
 
Campbellsville 3, Martin Methodist 0
 
Campbellsville grabbed its second 3-0 win of the day after sweeping Martin Methodist. The Lady Tigers went on a 6-0 run at the beginning of the first set after falling behind 2-0. The RedHawks cut into their deficit to make it 11-9, but Campbellsville went on a 5-0 run to increase its advantage to 16-9.
 
The Lady Tigers controlled the first set and went on a 9-3 run to win the set, 25-12.
 
At the start of the second set, both teams traded points with the largest lead being two points for the first 26 rallies. The Lady Tigers went on late run to stretch its lead to six points and its largest lead of the set came at the final point, 25-18.
 
Campbellsville carried its momentum from the second set into the third set as it jumped out to an 8-3 lead, forcing a Martin Methodist timeout. However, the RedHawks timeout did not break the Lady Tiger's momentum as it maintained at least a five-point edge for the remainder of the contest. Campbellsville completed the sweep with a 25-15 win in the final set.
 
The Lady Tigers hit .321 for the match, while limiting Martin Methodist to a .095 attacking efficiency.
 
Campbellsville returns to action on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. ET against Webber International University, and it finishes the Southeastern Challenge at 3 p.m. ET against College of Coastal Georgia in Columbia, Ky.
