CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville women's volleyball team returns to Mid-South Conference action on Tuesday night as the Lady Tigers host 18th-ranked Georgetown College at 7 p.m. ET inside the Powell Athletic Center.
Campbellsville is off to the program's best start since 2005 winning its first eight matches. The Lady Tigers face their first ranked opponent of the season after facing a pair of receiving votes teams prior to Tuesday night's contest against Georgetown.
Coming into the matchup, Campbellsville swept the MSC weekly honors with
Annija Abolina,
Jessie Pendleton and
Maliyah Tela earning their first honors of the season.
The trio also leads Campbellsville is kills, digs and assists, respectively. Abolina has 97 kills and a team-best 3.39 kills per set. Tela has 301 assists this season and averages 11.15 assists per set, which is four-best in the country. In just four appearances this season, Pendleton notched 88 digs and 5.87 digs a set.
On the front row, Julia Fonsea and Abolina have led the way with 26 and 21 blocks, respectively, while Campbellsville has compiled 54.5 blocks as team.
Georgetown comes into the matchup with a record of 4-1 and it suffered its lone loss of the season last week to No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College at home in straight sets. Georgetown ranks third in the NAIA with a .283 attacking percentage, led by Caroline Ricks with a .313 hitting percentage. Jenny Howell leads the team with 49 kills, while Kassidy Rauh has recorded 151 assists on 198 kills for Georgetown.
In its first five matches of the season, Georgetown has yet to play past the third set.
Campbellsville and Georgetown met three times last season with Georgetown winning each match. Campbellsville only won one set in the three meeting after it lost 3-1 at home to Georgetown last November.
Last season, Georgetown finished second in the Mid-South Conference standings after going 12-2 and Campbellsville was two games back and finished in third place with a 10-4 conference mark.
The Lady Tigers will also have a special recognition for the Amazing Aces Volleyball Club - a clinic by the CU volleyball program teaching the fundamentals to local children.
First serve between Campbellsville and Georgetown is set for 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday night from Powell Athletic Center.
