DAYTON, Tenn. – The 16th-ranked Campbellsville men's soccer team earned a 3-1 road win over 11th-ranked Bryan College on Saturday night.
Ignacio Mangada scored his third goal of the season, while
Yudai Yamauchi capped off the scoring with his first of the season, while also chipping in with an assist.
Campbellsville started out on the front foot with four shot toward the goal, while
Thomas Edge and
Nathan Heath blocked a pair of Lions (2-2-0) shots in the early going.
Bryan flipped the script late in the first half with five shots over the final 15 minutes, without allowing the Tigers (2-0-0) a shot.
The first half finished scoreless with Campbellsville firing four shots toward the net, but the Tigers did not hit the target with a shot in the first half. Of the Lions' seven first half shots,
Andreas Nota made three saves for Campbellsville.
Mangada broke the draw with a goal in the 56th minute, where Yamauchi picked up the assist on the first goal of the game.
The Tigers doubled their lead to 2-0 after the Lions scored an own goal in the 67th minute of play.
Bryan continued to battle back with Brad Spooner scoring for the fourth time this season. Spooner's goal in the 76th minute cut the Lions' deficit in half.
Yamauchi gave the Tigers an insurance goal late the match after he put home a pass from
Jorge Martinez to give Campbellsville a 3-1 edge with just over five minutes in regulation.
The Tigers closed out the game and won its second-straight game to start the season with a 3-1 win over Bryan. Despite being outshot in the contest, Campbellsville controlled possession throughout the match and forced the Lions to take most of its shots from distance.
Nota finished the match with four saves, while Campbellsville scored on both of its shots on target. The Lions outshot the Tigers, 14-7, and Bryan had five shots on target, compared to two from the Campbellsville.
The Tigers are back in action on Thursday as they host Mount Vernon Nazarene University for their home opener at 7 p.m. ET from Citizens Bank Field at Finley Stadium.
