Dalton and Friel capture individual victories, but Women’s Swimming falls to Centre, 158-61

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville women's swimming team started its 2017-18 season suffering a 158-61 loss to NCAA Division III Centre College on Saturday, 158-61.
 
Lauren Dalton and Brooklynn Friel led the Lady Tigers in the meet with wins in the 200-meter short course individual medley and 100-meter butterfly. Dalton finished in a time of 2:41.95, while Friel notched a 1:13.06.
 
The meet started with 200-meter medley relay, where the quartet of Katie Miller, Jen Lewis, Friel and Mikayla Runner finished second with a mark of 2:24:42, which gave Campbellsville a pair of team points.
 
Dalton, Gabrielle Velez, Katy Lewis and Lauren Sears finished fourth in the relay after completing the race in 2:27.00.
 
Faith Hyde was the lone Lady Tiger to race in the 800-meter freestyle and notched a time of 11:26.64 to place third.
 
In the 200-meter freestyle, Jen Lewis led a quintet of Campbellsville swimmers in the event with a fourth-place time of 2:37.68. Olivia Schneider rounded out the Lady Tigers to score in the event after posting a 2:37.69 to place fifth.
 
Sears and Friel finished back-to-back in the 50-meter freestyle with times of 30.47 and 30.94, respectively. Sears grabbed a third-place finish and three points, followed by two team points from Friel.
 
The Lady Tigers relay squad of Velez, Jen Lewis, Hyde and Friel posted a second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle after notching a mark of 2:06.74.
 
Sears finished fourth of eight racers in the 100-meter freestyle finishing in 1:07.25, followed by Maria Archila in fifth.
 
Along with a first-place finish, Dalton grabbed a second-place individual finish in the 100-meter backstroke after finishing in 1:14.61. Hyde finished in the fifth and Miller finished sixth with times of 1:19.81 and 1:23.12, respectively.
 
Schneider and Kate Bouldin picked up team points in the 400-meter freestyle finishing fourth and fifth, while Chelsie VanWhy rounded out the field in sixth with a time of 5:44.63.
 
During the final individual event of the meet, Velez notched a second-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke after completing the race in 1:27.50. Jen Lewis also scored a pair of team points in the event with a fourth-place finish.
 
The Lady Tigers rounded out the dual meet in the 400-meter freestyle relay where Runner, Dalton, Katy Lewis and Sears finished third with a time of 4:42.95.
 
Campbellsville returns to action next week at the Lindsey Wilson College Fall Frenzy on Friday and Saturday.
