No. 12 Men’s Soccer bounces back with 3-1 win at home over Bethel

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 12th-ranked Campbellsville men's soccer bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 3-1 win over Bethel College – who is receiving votes in the national poll – on Saturday at Finley Stadium.

Nathan Heath scored in his fourth-straight game, while Sam Wills and Ignacio Mangada each chipped in with a goal. Andrea Nota made a key penalty save to start the second half as he finished the match with seven total saves for the Tigers (6-1-0).

Heath got the scoring started in the 19th minute after converting on a penalty kick. This is his fourth successful PK in as many matches. All four of Heath's goals this season have come from the penalty spot.

Despite the early goal from Campbellsville, the Pilots (6-2-1) continued to put shots on target as Nota was forced to make three saves in the first half. Bethel had a spell before the Tigers second goal with three shots toward goal in less than two minutes.

However, the Tigers flipped the field take a 2-0 lead off of Wills' second goal of the season in the 40th minute.

Following the goal, Bethel was forced to play a man down after Ronaldo Fuentes was shown a red card in the 42nd minute. Two other yellow cards were handed out at the same time, while a third yellow card was given to Pedro Patino just before the half.

Bethel started the second half on the front foot and forced a Tiger foul inside the penalty area to generate a penalty kick opportunity for the Pilots. Nota came up with his fourth save of the match and stopped Samuel Biek's PK in the 47th minute.

Neither team could change the score line until Ignacio Mangada scored his fifth goal of the season in the 71st minute. Mangada's goal put the Tigers ahead by three with less the 20 minutes to play in regulation.

The shorthanded Bethel squad did not go away as Biek was able to avenge his missed PK with a goal in the 79th minute. The Pilots tried to continue to press offensively, but Campbellsville kept possession and only allowed Bethel to get one shot off over the final 11 minutes of the contest.

Nota wrapped up the match with his seventh save of the match in the 86th minute to secure the 3-1 victory for the Tigers.

Campbellsville held a narrow 17-16 shot advantage over the Pilots, while recording nine shots on target, compared to eight from Bethel.

The Tigers open up their 2017 Mid-South Conference season next time out against Georgetown College on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on the road.
