CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Five different Tigers recorded a goal in ninth-ranked Campbellsville's 5-0 win over Kentucky Christian on Friday night at Finley Stadium.
Cameron Badenhorst,
Nathan Heath,
Lucas Cury and
Sam Wills all recorded their first goals of the season for the Tigers (4-0-0), while
Yudai Yamauchi notched his second of the season against the Knights (1-2-0)
Campbellsville held possession most of the first half, and
Ignacio Mangada had an early scoring chance in the eighth minute, but he pushed his shot just wide of the goal. Badenhorst got the scoring started in the 15th minute after he corralled a cross from
Rickard Hallin off the right end line and blasted it past the Knight goalkeeper.
Mangada had the goalkeeper one-on-one in the 17th minute, but Chris McQuistion came up with the sliding save to keep Kentucky Christian's deficit at one.
After the Tigers generated numerous scoring chances, the pressure on the Knights backline surrendered a penalty kick to Campbellsville following a handball inside the 18-yard box. Heath converted on the penalty kick to put the Tigers up 2-0 in the 32nd minute.
Kentucky Christian got a shot off from distance that forced
Antonio Barona Bonet to make a diving save after coming into the game just three minutes prior.
Campbellsville finished the first half with 16 shots, with five going on goal. The Knights had just one shot on target over the first 45 minutes, while recording three shots.
The Tigers continued to push forward to start the second half with Cury scoring five minutes into the period after Wills slipped the pass in between two defenders to give Cury a one-on-one with the Kentucky Christian keeper.
Wills got in one the goal scoring three minutes later after Yamauchi laid the ball off to Wills at the top of the penalty area and Wills scored off of his first touch.
Yamauchi started to pepper the Knight goalkeeper with three-straight shots. Yamauchi was then pulled down inside the 18-yard box and gave the Tigers their second penalty kick opportunity of the match. McQuistion guessed the correct direction off the penalty kick, but Yamauchi's shot just slipped past McQuistion for Campbellsville's fifth goal of the contest.
The Knights generated a couple late rushes looking to spoil the Tiger's clean sheet, but Campbellsville secured the shutout and the 5-0 victory over Kentucky Christian.
The Tigers recorded 37 shots in the match with 14 on goal. The Knights finished the match with five shots – two on goal. McQuistion notched a match-high 11 saves.
