Second-ranked Women’s Wrestling closes dual on a 22-1 run and beats Emmanuel, 34-11

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's women's wrestling team closed its home slate on Friday night with a 34-11 dual victory over Emmanuel College.

After leading 12-10, the Lady Tigers (15-0) won the final five matches of the dual and only surrendered one team point over those matches en route to the victory. In the second half of the dual, Campbellsville won three matches via technical fall and two via pin.

McKayla Campbell (ranked third at 109 pounds) started the dual with a 12-1 technical fall over No. 8-ranked Iesha Washington in the 101-pound match to give Campbellsville the early 4-1 lead.

The first of two Emmanuel victories came at 109 pounds when Cody Pfau (ranked No. 1 at 109 pounds) pinned Katie Brock 1:07 in the match. The Lions took their only lead of the night at 6-4. However, Charlotte Fowler (No. 5 at 109 pounds) tied the dual a seven points apiece with a narrow 4-2 decision against Maria Vidales (No. 4 at 109 pounds) in the 116-pound match.

Campbellsville regained the lead with Steffanie Hampton (No. 8 at 130 pound) earning the first of three pins for the Lady Tigers. Hampton had the quickest pin of the night as she ended the match just 31 seconds into the 123-pound bout against Victoria Gutierrez (ranked sixth at 116 pounds).

The Lions got their final win of the night as Abigail Nette (No. 6 at 130 pounds) upset Shelby Hall (No. 2 at 130 pounds) in a 9-0 decision to cut Campbellsville's lead to 12-10.

Starting with 136-pound match, the Lady Tigers took over the dual and never looked back. Koral Sugiyama (No. 3 at 136 pounds) started the Campbellsville run with a pin over Astrid Silva in the second period of the 136-pound match to extend the lead for the Lady Tigers, 17-10.

Making her home debut, Grace Bullen (No. 3 at 130 pounds) grabbed a 10-0 technical fall for Campbellsville against Kayla Marano (ranked third at 143 pounds). Kayla Miracle (ranked No. 1 136 pounds) moved up to 155 pounds and controlled the match. Miracle was near the tech fall early in the first period, but just before scoring her 10th point she pinned Felicity Bryant 1:15 into the contest.

Holding a 26-10 lead and the dual locked up, the Lady Tigers did not let off the gas as Mariah Harris (No. 6 at 170 pounds) earned a 14-4 tech fall over Ophelia Lara at 170 pounds – which was the only points the Lions scored over the final five matches – to push the Campbellsville lead to 30-11.

Kaitlyn Hill (ranked third at 191 pounds) rounded out the dual with an early takedown in the 191-pound match and she continued to roll Kayla Wade to pick an 11-0 tech fall in the first period to seal Campbellsville's 34-11 victory.

The Lady Tigers now head to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Feb. 9 and 10 for the WCWA National Championships.
