Tigers extend winning streak to nine over Cumberlands; CU spoils Homecoming for Patriots

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Tiger soccer won its ninth-straight match over University of the Cumberlands to spoil Homecoming 2018 for the Patriots, 2-0. 
 
The Tigers improve to 7-6 overall and 4-2 inside Mid-South Conference play. CU is now tied with Cumberlands in the standings for third-place but the Tigers hold the tiebreaker after today's victory. 
 
The two Tiger scores came within 16 minutes of each other but were in different halves. In the 42ndminute, Nathaniel Fonda finished far post from about 18-yards out to put CU ahead, 1-0. The score now ties him with Troy Walters for the team-high with five goals in 2018.
 
In the 58th minute, Lucas Batistela started the second period by out-pacing a couple Patriot defenders and finished lower-right to beat Clement May in goal to put CU ahead, 2-0. 
 
Overall, the Patriots had more shots on goal than Campbellsville, 9-7, but Owen Stott pitched his third shutout of the season. Each team totaled 20 shots overall. 
 
In the series the past nine years, the Tigers have out-scored Cumberlands, 23-4. 
 
Campbellsville has now won five of its last seven games, as the Tigers will now host Senior Night vs. Georgetown College on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
