MARIETTA, Ga. – After losing the second set by 11 points to even the match at 1-1, CU women's volleyball flipped a switch to win the next two sets by 11 points and 14 points respectively on their way to earning their sixth-straight win.
The Lady Tigers were led once again by outside hitter,
Maria Coelho, who led all attackers in the match with 15 kills. Six of those kills came in a tightly contested first set that saw Campbellsville pull out a 25-23 victory to take an early lead.
In support of Coelho,
Sonia Flendrich, Katie Johnson and
Yelysaveta Sharkova each added seven kills for the Lady Tigers. Johnson, Sharkova and
Irene Baroni also each added three assisted blocks apiece to help CU get to their seven total blocks.
After jumping out to an early lead in the fourth set and slowly adding to it, CU went on a 10-1 run to finish the set after leading 15-10. The third set was a bit of a reversal to that late run as the Lady Tigers scored six straight points after the score was tied 3-3 to gain a comfortable lead then scored about two points for every life point.
Campbellsville improves their overall record to 17-8 and their conference record to 8-2 with their most recent win. CU sits comfortably in the top three in the Mid-South Conference standings, a half-game back of Georgetown, who they will host in Campbellsville Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET.
