Lady Tigers Come Up Clutch In Lengthy Five-Set Victory Over Georgetown College

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A five-set thriller where the first four sets were won by the minimum of two points and the final that was won by three was what determined who left Gosser Gymnasium in second place in the Mid-South Conference Tuesday night.

Campbellsville's Lady Tigers were the team that ended up on top and will head into their final three MSC matches in the second place position. The sets went 25-23 GC, 25-23 CU, 25-23 GC, 31-29 CU and 15-12 CU.

Individually, five CU players had a their own reasons to remember this night.

Outside hitter Maria Coelho had her second 20-kill night with exactly 20 for her second highest total of the season.

Setter Paige Merrick assisted on 55 kills, her second most of the season, along with adding 10 digs for a double-double.

Libero Jaimie Thompson recorded a career-high 41 digs, making plenty of key saves that resulted in CU points throughout the match.

The 31-29 fourth set had the most intensity the gym saw all night as the Lady Tigers needed the set to stay alive in the match after Georgetown took a 2-1 lead. After holding a 23-20 lead late in the set, CU saw GC tie the match at 24-24 after some hectic play. The Lady Tigers continued to battle as one-point leads were traded before Campbellsville scored points consecutive points after the 29-29 tie.

Georgetown's Ashton Meckle led the match with 23 kills in 56 attempts as setter Sarah Bell's go-to target. Meckle's kill numbers stand out as she plays the position of middle blocker, playing only half the rotation.

Now with a conference record of 9-2, CU leads Georgetown by a half game for the second place position behind Lindsey Wilson who holds the top spot with a 11-0 conference record.
