Lady Tigers look to complete Chamber Classic with another perfect slate; tipoff at 3pm vs. Hiwassee

McKENZIE, Tenn. — Lady Tiger basketball gets back underway on Saturday as game two of the Chamber Classic hosted at Bethel University's Crisp Arena features No. 3 Campbellsville and Hiwassee College.

Tipoff between the Lady Tigers and Tigers is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET. Fans can tune into the CU Sports Network starting at 2:45 p.m. as Jordan Alves fills in for Matt Payton this weekend.

The Lady Tigers are coming off a 109-76 win over Brescia University on Friday night, while Hiwassee lost to Bethel University in the night cap, 87-57. The one player CU has to key on is Hailey Browning – a 5-foot-7 senior guard that scored 16 points against Bethel.

The 45th season of Lady Tiger Basketball began in style as sophomore Sammy Rogers came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points and dish out a career-high four assists in CU's 109- 76 win.

The Lady Tigers scored 71 points off the bench - which has been the norm the past few seasons. The depth will need to continue as the Lady Tigers started the year without Madison Kaiser in the lineup. Then junior guard Cristin Hall went down with a left knee injury in the third quarter last night. Now, coach Ginger High Colvin is expected to insert Madison Faulkner into the starting lineup and will need Faulkner and Rogers both to step up in Kaiser and Hall's absence.

Jordan Doram also only play eight minutes last night due to foul trouble and CU will need her to be the "Big Fella" that controls the paint on Saturday.

Rogers has big night in opener:
  • Sophomore Sammy Rogers had a coming out party in the season-opener vs. Brescia University with a career-high 18 points.
  • Rogers also dished out four assists - another career-high in her short LTB career.
  • Rogers made 6-of-7 from the floor, 2-of-3 from 3-point land and all four free throws.
  • Last season, Rogers hit only three free throws in total and made four last night.
  • Also, she hit only three 3-pointers last year.
  • Rogers, a 6-foot wing player, prepped at Anderson County High School and led ACHS to a couple regional titles, including over now-teammate Shelby Harmeyer who played at Simon Kenton.
Faith Lake scores 11 in debut:
  • Freshman Faith Lake had a stellar night in her Lady Tiger debut, scoring 11 points.
  • Lake hit 5-of-8 from the floor and grabbed two rebounds.
  • She was inserted into the game in the second quarter and scored on her first-two touches.
  • Faith, another southpaw for the Lady Tigers, is a little taller than her twin, Lexy Lake, and will see valuable minutes with Cristin Hall and Madison Kaiser out of the lineup on Saturday.
When was the last time CU had five freshmen on the floor?
  • For the first time since the 2007-08 season, the Lady Tigers had all freshmen on the floor in their season-opening win over Brescia.
  • Madison Sheppard, Faith Lake, Lexy Lake, Lashaya Carman and Ashlie McGeorge were all on the floor and they all played over nine minutes.
  • The last time that happened was with Courtney Danis, Alexia Williams, TJ Thomas, Wendi Messer, Mellie Heaton and Millie Deason - which was coach Ginger High Colvin's first recruiting class at Campbellsville.
Savannah Gregory has eight steals… or did she?
  • Redshirt sophomore Savannah Gregory had a stellar rookie season for CU last year as she recorded 91 steals. Her 91 steals ranked No. 4 in the NAIA. Her 2.6 steals per game ranked No. 12 in the country.
  • Last night, Gregory tallied eight steals - which ties a career-high. But after looking at game film, it looked as if Gregory was slighted a little bit and had 11 steals. If true, that would be a new Lady Tiger single-game record.
