CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – As basketball season is fully upon us, Campbellsville men's basketball dominated in their season opener 95-66 over Kentucky Christian University.
Despite four players being out for the Tigers, CU got contributions from all eight active players with everyone scoring at least one basket on the night.
The leading scorer on the night was new Tiger
Stephaun Adams, who scored 29 points on 61% shooting (11-for-18) and going four for eight behind the arc in 32 minutes.
Hagen Tyler and
Ronald Taylor led CU in minutes played with 34 each and were the only other Campbellsville players with double-digit points.
Tyler's 23 points came while shooting 5-for-7 from three and 9-for-16 from the field as he moved into the top-10 on CU's all-time scoring list, passing Jeff Gumm (1980-84).
13 of Taylor's 15 points came in the first half as the junior scored 10 of the first 15 points for the Tigers in the game.
CU looked a little slow to start the game for the first 10 minutes as the game was tied 18-18. The Tigers did find their stride in the final 10 minutes of the first half, entering the break up 53-31 and finishing the opening period on a 20-3 run including a 9-0 run in the final 1:12.
The forward trio of
Deion Evans,
Calvin Fletcher and
Joan Duran combined to grab 21 of the 39 CU rebounds as the Tigers were without big man,
Andrew Smith for the night.
As a team, the Tigers shot 51.4 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three for the game after a 42-point second half.
After tonight's game, Campbellsville will have a quick turnaround for an exhibition game against Western Kentucky University tomorrow night in Bowling Green, Ky. at the E.A. Diddle Arena. Opening tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
